Hound Dog

Tones: True Marigold, Chestnut, Copper

About The Print: A chestnut hunting dog set against a yellow background. Oil on paperboard.

About The Artist: Adalbert Stifter was a Bohemian-Austrian writer, poet, painter, educator, and cultural preservationist whose work harmoniously blended literary and visual arts. Born in Oberplan (now Horní Planá, Czech Republic), he studied law and natural sciences in Vienna before becoming a tutor to aristocratic families. Stifter gained acclaim for his detailed, poetic prose in short story collections. Alongside his literary achievements, he painted serene landscapes in the Biedermeier style, often inspired by his native countryside. Later in life, he worked as a school inspector and cultural preservationist in Upper Austria.
